Lead Story. February 28, 2001
A rare, rare, $50+ losing night was had by the venerable Edict Emeritus last night. After being up by as much as $10, EE ended the night in the very deep end of the loser-pool by a combination of bad cards and uncharacteristically bad play. "His game fell apart like a Chinese bicycle. I couldn't bear to watch", said one player. "He had resorted to bluffing....that's how bad it got," said another. To those unfamiliar with his playing style: The Edict never bluffs! By the end, desperation had nearly overcome him, but he fought-on like a punch-drunk boxer in the late rounds. And the losses poured-on thick and heavy as frozen cherry-cola. The nadir of his pathetic evening: going for broke with 2 pair and capping his losses at $61, an all time low. What could have driven a disciplined and tight player as Edict to play so recklessly? Well, have you seen ACTV's stock price lately? Or, perhaps the years are finally taking their toll on the otherwise spry old codger. Your guess is as good as mine. Whatever the reason, there's always room for another fish at our table.
